Around 25 years ago, Albamar – a family-owned winery – began its journey to create Albariños with a unique character. In 2006, the winery was taken over by Xurxo Alba Padín, who dedicated himself entirely to the art of winemaking. The winery was renamed Bodegas Albamar after Xurxo combined his family name with the winery's proximity to the sea. It was then integrated into the Rías Baixas D.O. Xurxo created Pepe Luis in honour of his brother.

Pepe Luis is a white wine made from Albariño grapes grown in a single plot in Noalla, Sanxenxo, near the Atlantic coast. This wine is renowned for its ripe white fruit, citrus and floral notes, with smoky and spicy nuances, and a touch of saltiness.

Pepe Luis was matured in a 2,400-litre German oak foudre and two 500-litre French oak barrels. The wine was left on its lees for almost a year. Only 3,700 bottles were produced.

Here's a taste of what you can expect from this wine:

  • Aromas: The wine's aroma is a combination of citrus, lactic, and subtle toasted wood, with notes of laurel, balsamic, and mint.
  • Palate: Pepe Luis is dry, with a fine tannin structure, a medium body, and a balanced acidity. This wine is rich, saline, and fresh.
  • Pairing: Fish like San Martiño, monkfish, and grouper. It also pairs well with seafood, sashimi, carpaccio, pork, Asian noodles, and spicy dishes.
