Discover Tío Raimundo, a unique white wine from Alicante created by Bodegas Gutiérrez de la Vega. The wine’s name pays homage to an ancestor of the current owners who passed down the traditional winemaking methods of the Mediterranean.
Tío Raimundo is produced in Parcent, a small mountain village in Alicante, using the Moscatel grape variety, which undergoes biological ageing with velo flor. The vineyards are located in Plà de Lliber, Alicante (Marina Alta), in the north of Alicante (Moscatel). The vineyard has a south-east orientation.
The grapes were harvested and manually selected in season, then destemmed and crushed, and left to macerate with the skins for 1 day. Then they were pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts for 15 days.
The wine has been aged in stainless steel tanks for 5 months. Then, in January 2018, the wine was racked and placed in 225 litre barrels, about 2/3 full. It was left in the barrels for 5 years with the velo flor.
Only 750 bottles were produced from the harvest, making it a rare gem.
