The second-generation (Violeta and Clara) of the Gutiérrez de la Vega family are committed to making great red wines, and this one is pure seduction in a glass.
Viña Ulises is created using a blend of 60% Giró and 40% Garnacha grapes. They are grown in the Jalón valley, in Valencia, between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. The vineyards are grown on clay and limestone soil, in the Marina Alta region, close to the river Xaló.
After the grapes have been harvested by hand, they are taken to the winery located in Parcent, a small town in Alicante (where the Gutierrez de la Vega family have been producing wines since 1982). The grapes are then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 5 days with indigenous yeasts.
Afterwards, the wine is aged for 6 months in used 225-litre French oak barrels and 4 months in stainless steel tanks. Viña Ulises is bottled on the estate.
Here's a taste of what you can expect from this wine:
- Aromas: This is a young, fresh red wine. On the nose, it has aromas of wild red fruits and flowers.
- Palate: This wine is elegant, fluid, lively, and silky, with fine tannins and good acidity.
- Pairing: Viña Ulises is a versatile red wine that pairs well with meat and game on the grill, and also with certain paella dishes.
